Dawson County Historic Events Scenes Picture
Dawson County was founded in 1871. The "Immigration Reception House," which was built in 1872, served as a temporary courthouse until 1874.
The first Dawson County Courthouse was erected in 1873-1874 for approximately $30,000. When a grand jury condemned it in 1912 the building was sold for $448.
The current Dawson County Courthouse in
was funded by voters in 1912 and completed in 1914 at a cost of $100,000.
The courthouse is a fireproof structure containing Georgia Marble, Bedford Rock from Indiana and terrazzo flooring. Statutes of "Liberty" and "Justice" sit atop the building. War memorials are located on the front lawn.
